Verse 45 of Surah Al-Ankabut narrates that the prayers protect the reciter from evils:

Translation – (O Prophet), recite the Book that has been revealed to you and establish Prayer. Surely Prayer forbids indecency and evil. And Allah’s remembrance is of even greater merit. Allah knows all that you do

Quranic Verses about the Timings of Salah

On the basis of various Quranic verses, scholars have determined the timings of five daily prayers. Some of these verses are:

Verse 114 of Surah Houd mentions the timings of Fajr, Maghrib and Isha prayers as under:

Translation – And establish the Prayer at the two ends of the day and in the first hours of the night. Indeed the good deeds drive away the evil deeds. This is a Reminder to those who are mindful of Allah

Verse 78 of Surah Al-Isra mentions the timings of Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib as under. Recitation of the Quran at dawn, as mentioned in this verse, is interpreted by Scholars as the Fajr prayer.

Translation – Establish Prayer from the declining of the sun to the darkness of the night; and hold fast to the recitation of the Qur’an at dawn, for the recitation of the Qur’an at dawn is witnessed.

There are quite a few other verses in the Quran about reciting prayers at specified times. Similarly, offering prayers at the correct times is also mentioned in Hadiths.

Hadith on Offering Prayers at Right Timings

Each prayer has a particular time slot during which it can be offered. Although Salah can be offered anytime between the start and the end time, it is better to recite it as early as possible. Various Hadiths narrate that the best time to offer a Salah is right at the starting time, fixed for that particular Salah. For example, the starting time of Maghrib Prayer is the Sunset time. Hence, the best time for Maghrib Prayer would be right at the time the sunset.

Hadith 527 of Sahih Al-Bukhari narrates that the prayers should be offered at the earliest time, fixed for that particular prayer:

Translation – Narrated `Abdullah: I asked the Prophet (ﷺ) “Which deed is the dearest to Allah?” He replied, “To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times.” I asked, “What is the next (in goodness)?” He replied, “To be good and dutiful to your parents” I again asked, “What is the next (in goodness)?” He replied, ‘To participate in Jihad (religious fighting) in Allah’s cause.” `Abdullah added, “I asked only that much and if I had asked more, the Prophet (ﷺ) would have told me more.”

Hadith 172 of Jami At-Tirmidhi mentions the importance of offering a prayer in its earlier time as under:

Translation – Ibn Umar narrated that: Allah’s Messenger said: “The beginning of the time for Salat is pleasing to Allah, and the end of its time is pardoned by Allah.”

That’s why a Muslim must perform five regular daily prayers at the correct and best time.

Time Slots of Five Daily Prayers

The time slot for the Fajr prayer starts at dawn and ends just before sunrise
Dhuhr prayer timings start once, the Sun starts declining from its peak and ends just before the starting time of Asr Prayer.
The timings of Asr Prayer start when the shadow of an object is double the original length of the object. The timings end just before the sunset.
The time slot for Maghrib Prayer starts right at sunset and ends when it is completely dark (the end of dusk).
Isha’s prayer timings start when night sets in and ends by midnight.
